A foundational event in Village Christian School’s signature High School academic program, Concentrations®, Ignite once again proved to be a pivotal night for freshman.
On October 30, students, parents, mentors, faculty, and staff gathered together to celebrate and support VCS freshmen as they selected their Concentration and were surrounded by their 1:5® Circles of Care mentors.
The unique and impactful ceremony included guest speakers, chording as students declared their chosen Concentration, as special musical performance by Director of Fine Arts Natalie Taylor and VCS junior Eisley Aust, and a time of prayer on The Shield as students were surround by their mentors.
Quote below are a few anonymous student reflections following the event.
“I knew then that I was joining a healthy community, and as a bonus, it was a community of people doing something that I loved to do. This event helped me prepare for my future by allowing me to have more understanding what I could want my future career to be, as well as the mentors I have now who can help me achieve that career, or something like it.”
Concentrations include Health and Environment; Entrepreneurialism and Global Leadership; Ministry and Social Justice; Performing Fine Arts, Media, and Entertainment; Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math; and Visual Fine Arts, Media, and Entertainment.
“Many in my Circle of Care thought the ceremony was very touching and encouraged me to think about the many different people supporting me. My parents also affirmed my choice of the concentrations and gave many ideas as to how I could pursue it.”
Mentors are selected as part of our 1:5 Circles of Care initiative, utilizing research on the value and importance of non-parental adults’ influence during this pivotal time in students’ lives.
From Ignite, I learned that there are people in my life who love me, care for me, and support me and my decisions. Village has allowed me to find myself people to help guide me through my years in high school – and maybe even college. This experience gave me the opportunity to reach out to people I look up to so they can help me through situations and decisions.
We are proud of this class and are so excited to see their educational and career interests fanned into flame – and we are blessed to be on this journey with them.
