Middle School

Welcome to Village Christian Middle School. Isn’t it amazing how quickly time flies? It seems like just yesterday that we were dropping off our kids for their first day of kindergarten…and now? Middle School? Well, if you haven’t experienced it before, Middle School will also fly by.

Middle School is a tricky time. We sit between a five-to-six-year Elementary experience and a four-year High School experience. This three-year sprint through the turbulent Middle School years can be a wild ride and will inevitably go by quickly.

As you know, this age, developmentally, is critical and filled with both challenges and wonderful learning opportunities. My predecessor was fond of saying that “the middle matters” and I have found that to be genuinely true. As we work alongside families to bridge the Elementary and High School years, I expect to look back and see how significantly our students will have grown spiritually, academically, emotionally, and socially. These middle school years matter.

What we hope you’ll see that sets this Village apart from other Middle Schools is the community and culture permeating our campus. Our teachers are excellent not just in how they teach, but in how much they care about kids.

Our goal during these years is to equip students with the knowledge, the skills, and the Biblical values needed to successfully navigate a rapidly changing world. We offer a rigorous academic program, a growing athletic program, visual and performing arts, retreat opportunities, and a Christian culture of CARE to help students be prepared for a tomorrow that is oftentimes difficult to imagine. At the heart of our efforts is our belief that Jesus Christ is central to all we do. In addition to being outstanding educators, our teachers model what it means to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Fine Arts in Middle School

The Middle School Fine Arts program facilitates the development of young artists through creative expression in the classroom and on the stage. We believe that artistic expression is a gift from God and that every student can receive, enjoy, and develop that gift. Our curriculum classes give students elective opportunities in choral, instrumental, drama, digital, and 2D/3D art. All of our dynamic fine arts offerings benefit from our beautiful Kendall Pavilion, Black Box Theater, Graphic Arts Lab, and modern, fully equipped practice rooms. Many of our groups travel and compete in regional competitions during the school year and have won outstanding awards.

Athletics in Middle School

Athletics is a cornerstone of the Middle School experience, providing unique and meaningful learning opportunities not offered elsewhere in the school curriculum. Middle School sports help in developing habits, attitudes, and ideals necessary for ethical competition and cooperation in society.

Athletic opportunities also help students with lifelong lessons for personal and spiritual growth, such as sportsmanship, teamwork, commitment, loyalty, integrity, and self-discipline - qualities that help prepare middle schoolers as future leaders on and off the field. All of our athletes also benefit from our strength and conditioning program in our modern weight training facility.

CREW Leadership

CREW (Compassionate, Respectful, Equality, and Welcome) is a eighth grade leadership class. CREW Leaders are selected by an application process during their 7th grade year. They are respectable role models, have excellent communication skills, leadership potential, strong faith, GPA of 3.0 or higher, and sense of responsibility. CREW Leaders have a tremendous influence on our new students and learn many valuable leadership skills in the process.

What does a CREW Leader do? CREW Leaders are trained to work with the incoming sixth grade students as they transition to middle school. After three days of training, the CREW Leaders run sixth grade orientation before school starts in August. Each CREW Leader is assigned a small group of sixth grade students to meet at orientation and to befriend during the first few weeks of school. Additionally, throughout the school year, CREW Leaders meet regularly with their student groups to touch base, discuss problems, and provide spiritual, social, and academic support. CREW Leaders also impact all middle school students through leading seminar classes and organizing middle school events.

CREW Leaders meet as a class, and as a Seminar group in 8th grade, with the CREW class taking the place of 8th grade Bible in their schedule. A Biblical perspective of leadership, character development, relationships, and mentoring/discipleship is a foundation for the program.
