Village Christian Names Robert Sayles New Interim Middle School Principal

Village Christian School is delighted to announce the appointment of Robert Sayles as the new Interim Middle School Principal. After a nationwide search, a committee of teachers and administrators selected Mr. Sayles to succeed and work alongside current Middle School Principal Dana Mikels as she assumes her new role as the High School Principal this summer, and Jeff Maljian as he leads our Elementary School.

“Robert has prepared himself unlike any other candidate for the role of Middle School Principal at VCS,” said Head of School Tom Konjoyan. “He will complement the leadership styles of Mrs. Mikels in the High School and Mr. Maljian in the Elementary School, forming an excellent team to lead our school forward.”

Sayles has served as Assistant Principal at Village for the past seven years. Prior to his time at VCS, he was the Principal of the Dream Center Academy for 14 years, which he helped build from the ground up, and an English teacher at multiple High Schools in the Greater Los Angeles Area. He has distinguished himself in leading Village’s safety and emergency planning efforts, academic intervention strategies, and the instructional coaching of new teachers.

“Robert is a faithful part of the Middle School administrative team. He has worked over the years to build relationships with Middle School students and their families,” Mikels said. “He sees the value and importance of the three key years of Middle School, and I have no doubt that the Middle School will continue to thrive under Robert’s leadership.”

Sayles is a graduate of Pepperdine University and has a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Southeastern University. He is also the head boys varsity soccer coach at VCS, leading the team to an Olympic League championship this past season. Additionally, he and his family have hosted VCS international students for many years.

“I am honored and excited to continue the work of Mrs. Mikels and the talented Middle School team to help students navigate the middle school adventure,” Sayles said. “I look forward to seeing this incredible group of students grow into the young men and women God has called them to be.”
