CASTING A CAMPAIGN VISION

It’s a new year, and we are excited to celebrate more completed projects from the Legacy Campaign’s list.

But how was that list established in the first place?

From strategic planning to providential opportunities, let’s dive into the process and vision that established our latest effort to advance and elevate the VCS legacy.

The process started in 2017, when members of the VCS community may remember participating in focus groups and filling out surveys and evaluations. Data was compiled from students, parents, faculty/staff, and alumni.

The result was a three-year strategic plan targeting the most pronounced growth areas and grounded in prayer.

“When we looked at our needs, they were focused on creating the facilities, space, and ability to house the innovative programs we have developed and continue to develop,” said Head of School Tom Konjoyan.

However, space comes at a premium on campus, so in order to address some of the needs, notably for thriving fine arts, basketball, and volleyball programs, God had to make a way.

That path opened up in the fall of 2018, when VCS was able to purchase two properties at the end of Village Avenue.

It was the final piece of the puzzle, creating room for programs to grow and to relocate facilities, paving the way for a new fine arts venue/gym space in the years to come.

Athletic teams could have another place to practice and host games.

The South Athletic Complex was born – a project currently various stages of approval with the City of Los Angeles. (Click the link below to see initial designs for this exciting project.)

Meanwhile, and in response to community feedback, other projects were green-lit, including the new Elementary Library, which is scheduled to formally begin construction later this year. This critical initiative relocates the library to accommodate full classrooms and facilitate new learning strategies. (Click the link below to see designs for the Elementary Library.)

To facilitate programmatic growth, procuring a new fine arts stage; expanding curriculum and missions opportunities; and enhancing Concentrations®, to name a few, were added to list – as were other critical upgrades.

“As curriculum has shifted and teaching strategies have been enhanced by technology, it is vital to keep up to date on and hardware in the classroom and Wi-Fi and network infrastructure throughout the school,” Konjoyan said.

Thanks to the generosity of our families and faculty, some of those needs have already been addressed as campaign funds are immediately put to use.

With more projects nearing completion and others slated to begin soon, we cannot wait to share continued progress and the impact your support is having on our students and teachers.

Thank you to everyone who has partnered with the Legacy Campaign in these first few months. Thanks to your generous support, we have totaled $923,210.65 in pledges and/or received funds!

Our first brick installation is scheduled for Spring Break with a special ceremony to follow, while plans for a “Name A Seat” event are also in the works for the coming months.

Thank you to everyone who has submitted their donor recognition messages. If you haven’t sent in your message(s), there is still time, and we will be following up with you soon.
