Last year, students in Real Life Law got to experience the following week of immersive opportunities:
DAY ONE
Get an inside view of a courthouse, talk to a Judge and visit their chambers
DAY TWO
Get an inside view and tour of a Police Department, talk to officers about what they do, and perhaps visit a jail
DAY THREE
Hear an LA County DA (am session) and Public Defender (pm session) talk about what they do, how they prepare their cases, and how they present their arguments in court. Afterward, students will be given details of various case and strategize how they might approach the case as either a DA or defense attorney.
DAY FOUR
Mock Trial — teams of students will be assigned one of two sides to a theoretical legal case. They will then prepare a case and presents to a “jury” of their peers, which will reach a decision.
