Village Christian Hires Rand Holdren as New Head Football Coach

SUN VALLEY, Calif. – Village Christian School has hired longtime coaching veteran and quarterback coach Rand Holdren as its new head football coach, the school has announced.

The hiring follows the resignation of eight-year head coach Richard Broussard earlier this month.

Holdren comes to VCS after five seasons at Maranatha, where he led the Minutemen to the postseason three times, including a semifinal run in 2022 – building the program from 15 student-athletes to 62 across multiple levels in just three years.

“My passion is to mentor young men through the game of football, helping them grow not only as athletes, but as leaders, teammates, and followers of Christ,” Holdren said. “I look forward to building meaningful relationships with our players, families, and the entire school community as we pursue a program rooted in purpose.”

Prior to his time at Maranatha, the former Southern Methodist University quarterback served as the Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator at Burroughs in Burbank (2018-2020); Quarterbacks Coach and Offensive Consultant at Bishop Alemany (2017-2018); Offensive Coordinator and Executive Board Member at B2G Elite Sports (2011-2018); and the Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach at Harvard-Westlake (2007-2016).

“We are excited for the calling that God has put on Coach Rand to be the next leader of our football program,” said VCS Athletic Director Diana Putignano. “His experience and passion for the game will help us build on the rich legacy and tradition here at Village, and we can’t wait to see the impact he will have in the lives of our student-athletes.”

The move comes following the sudden resignation of Broussard, who rebuilt the VCS football program following the 2017 season’s cancellation due to low participation. In his eight seasons at the helm, Broussard finished with a 44-37 overall record and took the Crusaders to the postseason each of his last five years.

“We are so thankful for Coach Bru’s devoted service to our football program and our school over the years,” Putignano said. “He has always been an advocate for kids, and his love of mentorship will continue to be invaluable as he steps into this next chapter. He will be missed.”

In Holdren, Village gets a gifted offensive mind with a proven track record of developing talent and building from within.

“Coach Holdren is immensely capable of leading our football program to great success,” said Head of School Tom Konjoyan. “But I am most impressed with his heart for helping young men grow in their faith in Jesus and their relationships with one another.”

Added Holdren: “I am incredibly grateful and excited for the opportunity to serve as the next Head Football Coach at Village Christian. I feel truly called to be part of a community that values faith, character, and excellence both on and off the field. I am honored to step into this role and can’t wait to get to work with these student-athletes.”
