Village Christian Class of 2012 graduate Amjed Aboul-Hosn was inducted into the VCS Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday, October 24, 2025, at Glendale Community College during halftime of the Crusaders’ win over Ontario Christian. The decorated, record-setting running back was surrounded by family and friends during the ceremony.

2025 VCS ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME INDUCTION | AMJED ABOUL-HOSN (CLASS OF 2012)

No one gave Village Christian a chance.

On the road against Azusa High School, the Mid-Valley Division’s top seed, in the first round of the playoffs, the odds were stacked against an under-manned and seemingly out-matched VCS football team.

Or so everyone thought; everyone except the Crusaders and record-breaking running back Amjed Aboul-Hosn, a foundational figure in Village’s famed 2010 “Dirty 30,” named for its lean roster that featured just over 30 athletes.

“They had a very strong, ranked defense—the talk of the town,” Aboul-Hosn recalls. “There were a ton of news articles and a bunch of interviews going around about them being so strong defensively and them stopping the run game. It was very evident that after the first series that was just not going to happen. We knew we were going to win that game.”

That’s exactly what they did, gritting out a thrilling 31-24 win over the Aztecs, shocking the bracket and adding an exciting new chapter in Village football’s storied underdog history.

“We had so much belief, and we really believed it didn’t matter who was in front of us, that we were going to get the job done,” says Aboul-Hosn, who had two touchdowns and 111 total scrimmage yards in the upset victory. “It was 11 men versus 11 men, and no matter who was in front of us, if every single one of us just did our job, every single play, we couldn’t be stopped.”

In fact, no one could stop the hard-nosed ball-carrier, who averaged 7.4 yards per carry and scored multiple touchdowns in every game his junior season. That year, Aboul-Hosn amassed 35 touchdowns on 274 total carriers, and accounted for 212 total points—all school records.

“We had the perfect group with our seniors and his junior class,” says former Crusaders Head Coach Jeff Cortez, a 1990 Village alum and 2010 VCS Athletics Hall of Fame inductee. “We really gelled, and he was the spearhead of the offense.”

He was a fixture throughout VCS’s run to the CIF-Southern Section Mid-Valley semifinals, where Village ultimately lost a nailbiter to league rival Whittier Christian 43-42. The 2012 VCS graduate carried the ball 30 times for 156 yards and four scores in the game.

“Amjed was the heartbeat of our offense,” says former lineman and then-team captain Jay Pyburn (VCS Class of 2011). “He ran with toughness, grit, and heart—everything our team stood for. He was a nightmare to bring down and the perfect tip of the spear for a physical team like ours. Sharing the field with him was truly special. Amjed was going to run through you, watching him run though defenders gave all of us on the offensive line a boost and just fueled the fire. For a high school running back to score 35 touchdowns in one season is incredible, He was truly special and the HOF at VCS has been incomplete without him.”

Over his three-year varsity career from 2009-2011, Aboul-Hosn set all-time marks for career points (336), career rushing touchdowns (56), career rushes (574), and career rushing yards (4,139).

“He was the perfect kid for our system,” Cortez says. “He should’ve been a basketball star — should’ve been Village’s Luka Dončić — but we got him, and he stuck with football. We were so fortunate. He had an amazing junior year; one for the record books, for sure. Big, strong, athletic, fast.”

After VCS, Aboul-Hosn earned his undergraduate degree and MBA from Hult International Business School. He currently works for Birch Gold Group, dealing in commodities (precious metals) and retirement accounts, after previously working in AI integration at Microsoft and Financial Consulting at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

“Looking at Village, what Village taught you is that, first and foremost, everything that you have is from the Lord, and you can’t take things for granted,” he says. “Everything is a blessing, and you’re in a position to do something, and that’s because God has put you in that position. … Beyond obviously having that relationship spiritually is really the trust and belief that you will develop as an individual going to [VCS].”

He took the talents God gave him, and he turned them into a VCS Athletics Hall of Fame career.

“It’s very humbling,” he says of his induction. “I have nothing but a great sense of gratitude. It’s nice to be acknowledged for the work that I’ve done, but at the same time, it’s such a blessing to be in a position to even come back, support my school again –  my alma mater – and forever be a part of the athletics that I put so much time, effort, sweat, and blood into, so it’s a very, very humbling experience.”
